Power Grid and Outages
Today (May 9, 2022) there were some localized power outages in our community. I did investigate and there were no records of power losses. However, I know that some of you experienced the loss. It is unacceptable and a priority to me to resolve our energy grid issues. Already the town is working with National Grid who is aggressively trimming trees around our lines in advance of any storm system. The power grid issue goes well beyond storms and it is an acute goal that we have a controlled grid. I am a strong supporter of our expert team found in Cohasset’s Alternative Energy Committee who has laid the groundwork for a reliable and resilient Cohasset microgrid of varying sizes that is decentralized from large-scale utilities and sourced by a variety of energy sources like green energy. There are multiple challenges, and they are not resolved easily. For instance, the anticipated solar array desired for the school roofs is pending due to the school facilities. This now becomes a larger discussion as we look to rebuild our infrastructure and functionality that includes an energy resilient program. With your support and vote on May 14, I will continue to push forward these discussions with our Alternative Energy Committee and others to get actionable concrete items that put our community in a better position.
