The Plan to Conserve Cohasset’s Character
Hello, I am Cohasset Select Board Member, Jack Creighton and I am running for re-election.
Prior to being first elected in 2019 I had been active in numerous public roles and town organizations. Since my election I have been a voice for good government, transparency and ethical conduct. Contributing to my reelection decision is the encouragement of so many supporters who have observed first hand my approach to government and civic responsibility.
I represent straight forward government. I disagree with hypocrisy and stand ever ready to take on corrupt government. It takes a true leader to stand strong for Cohasset and I have shown that I am such a leader.
I take inspiration from the many Cohasset citizen volunteers who serve on our Boards and Committees. Their honest service to Cohasset always encourages me as I do my best to keep Cohasset the special little town that it is.
I hope to enlist everyone in the cause of civic pride, Cohasset is us and we are Cohasset.
In the past I served on the Conservation Commission and worked to enforce our laws and by-laws fairly and without favor. We passed our Town environmental laws to conserve Cohasset and not to be used as political tools to favor the connected.
I also served on the Affordable Housing Committee to help develop positive strategies to meet the increasingly onerous state regulations while increasing Cohasset’s affordable housing stock. We need Cohasset solutions.
I serve as the Select Board liaison to the Harbor Committee and pay particular attention to ensuring that the zoning overlay was not expanded to allow condos to encircle our harbor. In addition ongoing pollution issues and harbor controls cannot be ignored
FYI- I in the past served in Boston on the Fenway citizens zoning committee which helped develop policies so Fenway Park could be rebuilt rather than be razed. Good public policy matters: I want to put my expertise at the service of our beautiful town.
I have lived in Cohasset for over 30 years and from the beginning I recognized our town as a special place. Arising out of that is my belief that we have a special responsibility to conserve Cohasset’s character. That is why I want to continue volunteering my time and expertise to Cohasset. I am always meeting with Cohasset residents to discuss their concerns and visions for the town. I attend 3 to 4 meetings a week of town boards, committees, and citizen groups to familiarize myself with current town issues. It is easy to pontificate; it is much more important to listen.
One of my priorities is to foster an environment that encourages people of all ages to volunteer to run for elected and appointed positions. We risk losing bright minds and ideas when marginalize our valued volunteers. Too often they are treated as an afterthought at town hall.
In attending the many Cohasset boards, commissions and advisory groups I have been struck by the extraordinary high quality of our citizen volunteers. Wouldn’t it be great if we could match them with equally talented newer volunteers?
I intend to continue use my proven leadership abilities to help develop sound and effective solutions for the benefit of the town. Solutions require hard work and the courage to speak up; issues can and will be solved but they will be solved by hard, smart, work not slogans and sound bites. Those who know me know that I can be trusted to conserve Cohasset’s character
I will to stand firm for Cohasset as I have since I was first elected. It is an honor to serve.

Thank you.
